A downed balloon hurtles towards Earth
we watch the sky- waiting
for it to fall in the water and drown 
under the noise of wars in places we’ll hear of once
and never again.

Post-satire art, irony like layered cakes-

they were funny then-
but now we laugh for laughter’s sake.

We get it.
We get the joke.

Heat rises, doomed the human race
to build a billboard out in space,
a wink amongst the twinkling stars.

See, it’s funny?
Don’t you get it?

Marriage, airplanes, falling down
punchlines from yesterday.
Laugh-tracks echo, amorphous fuzz, 
and surgery on grapes.

We cut our pain to byte-sized bits
And laugh for laughter’s sake.
