Black & White Times

If you claim that I'm wrong
Then you too, are rotten
Unseen lies your core
Mine too, I’ve forgotten

My darkness suppressed
My ills unobserved
My wrath rightly earned
My pain undeserved

Or so that's just what
My evil has learned

If I'm articulate enough
I'm beyond reproach
Ideas though incomplete
Breed virtues I can boast

Or so that is what
My evil wants me to hope

My ideals without fault
And yours, obsolete
Your will lacks a head
My vision just needs feet

Or so that is what
My evil's taught me to think.

Though battles are won,
Are wars ever complete?
I think I’ll claim triumph today,
Won’t you just accept defeat?

Or so that is what
My evil wants me to seek.

Your flaws unexamined
Your morals overblown
Your injury exaggerated
Your pain just for show

Or so that is all
My evil wants me to know.

How does one begin,
To live without sin
And what is a crime
Except “that one time”
A meaningless blunder
That was taken out of context

If only you all knew
the sort of stress
I was under !

Or so that is what
my evil wants me to wonder.

There’s rules we all face
Dirty thumbs we’re all under
I remember it was black and white
and the red slipped between lines
Real distinctions couldn't be made
— at least not at the time.

My evil is still murky
Your virtue unearned
You reveled in rectitude
All while the red burned.
