a dumb poem about the weather

What’s the weather like outside?
So I’ll know what to wear tonight
I move to check my phone
The clock says 5:55
That’s an angel number, right
I should look it up
I think that’s a good sign
My friend wants to start a book club
I message back saying maybe
I’m not sure I’ll have the time
Already opened this app
So I scroll further down
An ad, a chatty bird, a workout
A recipe I can maybe manage
Missing ingredients I’ll have to find
Bookmark and scroll further
And oh my gosh —
it’s another terrible war crime
Can I find it in me to be surprised?
The video is 6 minutes long
I glance aside at reality
My cat looks really cute right now
Lay back and snap 8 photos
Yes that’s totally sane
All is well in my world
I’m doing perfectly fine
But now it’s 5:59
I still have to get ready
I open my phone again
Something I needed to check online
101 tabs open is far too much
I look up the number 555
Open several sources
The tab number climbs
No wonder my phone is slow
And I’m running out of time
Still not dressed yet
Still paralyzed
But I can’t move until I know
What’s the weather like outside?
